Medifast, Inc. profit climbed 67 percent in the third quarter to $5.8 million behind continued growth in its Take Shape for Life weight loss plans.The weight-loss company earned 39 cents per share in the three months ended Sept. 30, up from 23 cents earnings per share in third-quarter 2009.
PNC Financial Services Group's earnings exceeded $1 billion in the third quarter, more than double the bank's profit a year ago. Greater Baltimore's third-largest holder of area deposits reported it earned $1.09 billion, or $2.07 a share, in the quarter ended Sept. 3. That was up from earnings of $467 million, or $1 a share, for the third quarter of 2009.
