25,000 lbs Shredded at Secure Your ID Day
Your BBB
helped about 900 families and small businesses in Maryland and 15,000 across
North America fight identity theft by shredding a record-breaking 480 tons of
sensitive paper documents for free at “Secure Your ID” Day community events on
April 17.
The
success and popularity of "Secure Your ID" Day grows every year and
your BBB was proud to provide this service to our local community. BBB is here
for Marylanders not only when they need help finding a trustworthy business or
when they have a grievance with a company, but also to help them guard their
finances and protect their families in small ways, every day.
BBB
shredded more than 25,000 lbs. of paper documents at The Avenue in White Marsh,
using three commercial trucks donated by Cintas Document Management for the
event. That was nearly three times the amount destroyed two years ago when the
event was first held in Maryland. This year, BBBs hosted 50 locations across
the US and Canada.
“Secure
Your ID” Day will be held locally again next year on April 16. For future
updates on BBB “Secure Your ID” Day and to learn measures to prevent identity
theft, visit: www.bbb.org.
“Secure
Your ID” Day was made possible in part by the financial support of AES Builder and Home Improvements, AT&T Mobility, CarChex, CareOne Services, Cintas Document Management, IWIF Workers’ Compensation Insurance, Mr. Basement, Travel Advantage Network, as well as, dozens of volunteers who donated their time.
